CDD Youth Division, and Youth Championship
Beginning in 2016, the CDD will run a Youth T&C division at all CDD events. The CDD is adopting the Skyhoundz definition and criteria to determine the eligibility of a handler for “youth” events:
The simple interpretation of this statement is this: In the year that a handler turns 16 years old, they are no longer eligible to compete in the Youth division. For example, if Alex turns 16 on March 1st, 2016, then during that year, they may not play in the Youth division. Similarly, if Alex's birthday is June 15 or December 30 of 2016, then Alex is not eligible to play in the Youth division at CDD Events. However, if Alex turns 16 on March 1st of 2017, and thus Alex will be 15 years old on December 31, 2015, he may compete in the Youth division for all of 2016.
At 16 years old, a competitor may not compete in Youth division events any longer.
Their “clock” starts when they first compete in an Adult division. At that point, all normal ROTY conditions apply. This applies even if the handler is still a Youth, and subsequently competes in the Youth division again.
CDD Youth Champion
All handlers in youth who are also CD members will receive points toward the Youth Championship. At the end of the season, the team with the highest points will be declared the CDD Youth Champions.
Any Youth team that wishes to do freestyle, but not enter an "Adult" division and thus start the clock on their Rookie Status, may enter Rec or Intermediate Freestyle. As of 2016, there are no Colorado State Championship points for either one of these divisions.
