Due to last week's "windout" at Lyons, next weekend (Saturday Sept. 30 and Sunday Oct. 1), we will be
conducting a drop-in style make-up competition. What that means is that the
officers will be at a park during specific hours on Sat. and Sun. and
competitors can simply drop by anytime at their convenience and run
their two rounds. We will record the scores as each team does their
rounds, and then post the complete results Sunday night.
The park is in south-west Littleton; Community Park near the corner of
Kipling and Chatfield. The exact times are still to be determined and
will be announced very soon, but will most likely be something like
9am-2pm each day.
We feel that this type of make-up is most fair to the most people. It
achieves the following primary goals:
1) More competitors will be able to make it since there is no need to
block out an entire day to get to do their rounds.
2) Holding it over two days gives competitors better opportunities to
compete at a time that is convenient for them and also allows
potential weather concerns to be minimized.
3) Holding it outdoors and at a single park makes it "even" for
everyone.
4) Holding it next week end means that we can finalize the cup
standings sooner.
Regarding fees and participation points:
Anyone who paid at Lyons, will of course get to throw at the make-up
event for free. They will be awarded cup points based on their final
placement after everyone has thrown.
Any team that paid at Lyons but is unable to participate in the make-
up,
will get a refund and receive one (1) cup participation point.
Refunds
will be made once we see who doesn't re-compete.
Anyone who didn't register at Lyons, but wants to compete, is
welcome to pay the $5 fee at the make-up site, and run their two
rounds.
They will be scored and receive points along with all other
competitors.
Special notes:
If any of the players who are in contention for top awards want to get
together and compete at the same time during the make-up times, then
we
encourage them to coordinate with each other to agree on a time. If
that happens, be sure to let the rest of the membership know which day
and time so they all can come out and cheer you on!
The club's demo team is performing at that park on Saturday the 30th
as part of Ken-Caryl's FallFest Celebration (postponed from Sept. 23
This festival is similar to ThorntonFest and Aurora's KidSpree, so if you
compete on Saturday, then you are likely to have an enthusiastic
audience, too.
Reminder: We will use the old AWI "mini distance" format.
The scoring zones are: 0-10 yds - 0 points 10-15 yds - 1 point 15-20 yds - 2 points over 20 yds - 3 points
You also earn an extra 1/2 point if the catch is made with all four paws off the
ground.
There is no out of bounds. You can use any frisbee that is safe to use with a dog
(floppies, fastbacks, hyperflites, aerobie superdisc.) This type of format lends
itself to some high scores.
We will be using the Intermediate point scale for accumulating cup points.
Also the scores at this competition will NOT be used in determining the Hershey Award winner.
